Adidas
In the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, we set out to create a portfolio piece that pushed beyond traditional sports advertising, inspired in part by Canada’s historic qualification to the Round of 32. The goal was to create something that sat between commercial and film, blending grounded realism with surreal, heightened storytelling.
The Challenge
We set out to capture one of football’s most intense moments: the decisive free kick, where pressure collapses time and the expectations of a team, a nation, and a crowd fall on a single player.
To achieve this, we needed real athletes, a real pitch, and in-camera rainfall, while also developing a visual language that could translate internal pressure into something cinematic.
The VISION
The film explores a simple question: what does pressure feel like when the entire world is watching? As a storm rolls in, time slows, the crowd fades, and the moment becomes isolated.
It reflects both the universal experience of high-pressure sport and the emotional weight of representing your country, while also celebrating Canada’s historical tournament run.
For Fans, By Fans
We pulled from our own experience, our passion for football, and for filmmaking to create something that would speak to us and other soccer fans.

The Approach

We focused the story around a single defining moment in football: the free kick. By stripping away everything except the player, the ball, and the pressure of the moment, we created a concept that could blend realism with a more cinematic, surreal perspective.

We designed and built a practical rain rig to create the storm entirely in camera. This allowed weather to become an active storytelling element, giving us complete control over the look and intensity of each shot.

Working with a modest budget, we combined real athletes, practical effects, and careful planning to maximize production value. The project became an exercise in creative problem-solving, proving that ambitious ideas don't always require large-scale resources to achieve cinematic results.
THE RESULTS
The final piece delivered a stylized interpretation of one of sport’s most pressure-filled moments, combining grounded athletic performance with surreal cinematic language.
The use of real athletes and in-camera weather systems helped maintain realism, while the narrative framing elevated the experience into something more psychological and immersive.
Beyond being a portfolio experiment, the project also became a moment of reflection and celebration—connecting the emotional intensity of elite sport with Canada’s presence on the global stage.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
High-concept sports storytelling becomes most powerful when it is rooted in real stakes.
By combining authentic performance, practical effects, and a clear emotional anchor, we were able to transform a single moment into something that feels both personal and national in scale.
